Accessibility

PRAXIS’s commitment to a website that everyone can use.

The PRAXIS website aims to meet the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, and the Brazilian e-Government Accessibility Model (eMAG) 3.1. The Brazilian Inclusion Law (Law No. 13,146/2015, art. 63) makes accessibility mandatory on the websites of government bodies.

What the website already offers

  • A shortcut bar at the top of every page, with the shortcut to the content as the first link: Content (1), Menu (2), Search (3) and Footer (4).
  • Full keyboard navigation, with focus always visible.
  • Submenus that open from the keyboard, with Enter or Space, and close with Esc.
  • Menu, filters and language switcher that work without JavaScript.
  • Text colours with a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1.
  • Designed to work with the operating system’s contrast mode, such as Windows High Contrast.
  • The language of each page marked in the code, and the name of each language written in that language.
  • Pages that fit screens 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling.
  • No carousels and no videos that start on their own. The only animation, in the opening section of the home page, is switched off for anyone who has turned on the reduce motion option in their system.
  • A ‘Back to top’ link in the footer and, on long pages, a fixed button to return to the top.
  • Breadcrumbs, menu and search as three ways to reach every page.

Keyboard shortcuts

The shortcuts use the browser’s access key together with the number: 1 goes to the content, 2 to the menu, 3 to the search and 4 to the footer. On Windows, the combination is usually Alt + number (in Firefox, Alt + Shift + number); on macOS, Control + Option + number. The combination may vary depending on the browser and the system.

How the website is evaluated

Before each new version, the website theme is tested on a local copy with the automated checker axe-core, against the WCAG 2.0 to 2.2 rules, levels A and AA.

Found a barrier?

Contact the group through the Contact page, telling us the page, what you tried to do and the tool you use (screen reader, magnification, keyboard). If you prefer, we will send you the content in another format.
